ENGINEERING FOR CHANGE
Collaborative 8th grade design teams use the “human centered” engineering design process to create a solution for an authentic problem/need that is directly tied to a target for one of the UN Global Goals. Design teams have access to a variety of design tools and materials to prototype ideas and create a final solution.
UN Global Goals
The United Nations adopted the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in 2015 . These goals are a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet, and improve the lives and prospects of everyone, everywhere. This must be a decade of ambitious action if we are to meet these goals by 2030.
- Final product provides a solution for one of the Global Goals listed above.
- Final product must utilize one or more design tool: 3D printer, laser cutter, micro:bit, or Littlebits.
- Final product must be designed by students using the appropriate software.
- Design process must be iterative – create, test, and revise multiple prototypes
