MAKER MONDAYS

Let the Creating Begin!

The Design Lab classroom will be open for use every Monday from 2:30 – 4 PM. All students are encouraged to attend.

Mr. Mularella and a group of SHS student volunteers will be present to supervise students and guide them in their work. OMS staff are also welcome to attend so they can learn more about the tools available for use.

“Maker Mondays” is not a school club.

You do not need to pay the activity fee to participate. You do not need to sign up ahead of time, though you are encouraged to speak with Mr. Mularella about any ideas you may have. You can attend every Monday all year, pop in once a month, or just stop by once or twice all year. It’s entirely up to you.

If you plan to attend and would like to receive updates:

1 – Join the Maker Mondays Schoology group. The access code is posted outside the Design Lab room.

2. Join the “Maker Monday Pathways” Trello board. The QR code for this link is posted outside the Design Lab room. (Please sign in using your school Google account.)

Maker Monday Pathways

Here are just some of the pathways students are currently exploring. You may join one of these pathways or create your own.

  1. Design 3D models with Tinkercad (beginner) and create your own object on the 3D printer. **
  2. Design 3D models with Onshape (intermediate) and create your own object on the 3D printer.
  3. Design 3D models with Fusion 360 (advanced) and create your own object on the 3D printer.
  4. Design vector graphics with Gravit Designer and create your own product on the laser cutter. **
  5. Design decals with Cricut Design Space and create your own product on the vinyl cutter. **
  6. Explore programming with micro:bits.
  7. Explore other types of programming or visually coding and create a website or app.
  8. Plan and construct a product using woodworking tools and traditional materials.
  9. Cardboard Challenges – Design and create complex creations using cardboard construction tools. Create dynamic “cardboard automata”.
  10. Get support or collaborate with your friends for another classroom project that requires use of the tools.

** These pathways require students to complete one of the online courses. These courses teach important skills and concepts necessary to design products for the 3D printers, laser cutter, and vinyl cutter.
